Reliquae

This body of work is inspired by the same basic concepts as Wunderkamera. In this series I created false fossils (a bit of a nod to the unfortunate status of traditional photography as an "endangered species"). These fossils are created using images of skeletons, botanical specimens, etc. that have been printed as transparencies on ortho litho film.  These transparencies were used to create toned cyanotypes on handmade paper and formed over hand-poured plaster slabs creating the illusion of a fossil that may be displayed in a natural history museum.

The original installation included a shrine area which paid homage to the creatures used in this body of work. Again, no creatures were harmed in the creation of this artwork and I believe that the photograph, much like taxidermy, can render the deceased into a state of immortality and preserve it as an object of beauty to be admired and cherished.
